San Telmo Nights

I grew up listening to some of Carlos Gardel music that my grandparents played.  Therefore, when I visited San Telmo in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor tango lessons.  They offered a vibrant and immersive cultural experience. All over the city, people dance under the open sky in historic plazas, surrounded by the neighborhood's charming architecture. An older man, chain smoking his cigarettes, invited us to a second floor dance studio for more in-depth foot work.  As a ballet dancer myself, I fell in love with the space, the wooden floors, the big windows and the airy feel.

\nBut it was the night that captivated me. The sound of accordions was so unique to that place! The night lights made the dancers look even more ethereal, like a hologram.  Just like this painting, you can't touch the dancers, but you can join them.  Play your favorite song, and dance like noone is watching.
