Mountain Memories

Our elders hold our stories, they are the memory of the land and the wisdom about our future.  They too were pioneers in their time - they paved the roads, literally and figuratively, that made way for what is emerging today.

\nPeople from Appalachia are known for self reliance and self sustenance, loving the outdoors and the land.  They preserve local traditions through tight knit communities.  Their music, like bluegrass and folk, is distinctively theirs, yet they are as American as a New Yorker. I imagine this elder telling stories about the trees in the background, of times when they were full of leaves, or perhaps when they didn't yet exist.
