Across the global south - countries like Bangladesh, Brazil, or Congo - women in the poorest economic levels are street vendors.  This scene captured my attention because I have seen that woman, dressed in different clothes, speaking a different language, in various other places.  She reminds me of family members, the guy that sells mangos by my aunt's house, the lady that sells flowers in a bucket.  These are all people who work very hard.  The hard expression in her face didn't intimidate me - I imagine her face would soften with an endearing smile if she saw her grandkids pass by. \n \nApproximately 65% of the world’s poorest (700 million people) working adults are employed in agriculture, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).  Women are 43% of this workforce, living from the sale of the crops they farm, or somehow involved in the production of our daily food intake. \n \n
