Jerez De La Frontera

Every year, renowned flamenco dancers, singers, and musicians come together to perform and teach students at all levels at Festival de Jerez.  This takes place at Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, attracting thousands of people from 40 countries all over the world. The typical dress for the women includes an elaborate skirt, large flowers on their heads, big jewelry, and shawls.

\nThese shawls are characteristic of Spain. Growing up, these shawls were worn by older women in Dominican Republic, a legacy of Spanish colonization.  The shawls still catch my attention because of their intricate crochet and embroidered designs made with fine threads.
